Yuca, more popularly known as Cassava, is a tropical plant native to South America. Cassava is a woody shrub that is important as a staple food source, primarily due to it's starchy, tuberous roots. Tapioca is made from the grounded powder of these roots. Cassava has been a source of food to indigenous peoples in the Americas for thousands of years.

The roots are a good source of vitamins, minerals, and high-value calories. Similar to potato, Yucca root contains a lot of starch and carbohydrates. It is cultivated in Africa, as well as the Caribbean and other parts of South America.
