Yuca is a fast-growing plant with a very unique tropical look! Yuca, also popularly known as Cassava, is a native to South America, where it grows abundantly in warm sunny locations. Growing Yuca in the garden is one of the most effortless and rewarding plants to grow and harvest. You can grow Yuca as a perennial or an annual plant both outdoors and in!  Yuca can easily be grown in a container and overwintered outdoors if needed.

The Yuca's roots are a fantastic source of vitamins, minerals, and high-value calories. Yucca root is actually quite similar to a potato but contains more protein, calories, and carbs.  Cassava has been an important source of food to indigenous peoples in the Americas for thousands of years. Today, Yuca is cultivated as a staple food source in much of Africa, as well as the Caribbean and other parts of South America. Yuca has many culinary uses, from yuca fries to tapioca!

Important Shipping Information:

Sow Exotic ships nationwide year-round to the United States.  We use plant-based, plastic-free, reusable, recyclable, biodegradable, AND compostable packaging materials. All of our plants ship ready-to-grow in plantable pots (with the exception of citrus) and range in size.  See the size guide on each plant page to learn more about what to expect upon arrival.

Shipping & Handing Cost
Shipping cost is calculated at checkout based on your order weight and your distance from the nursery. Shipping is combined for multiple orders with plants, so the more you grow, the more you save!  

Order Processing & Shipping Schedule
Live plant orders are processed at the beginning of each week and ship on Monday-Thursday via 1-3 Day USPS Priority Mail. Order processing time before shipment averages from 1-14 days. 

Tracking Your Order
As soon as you place your order, you will receive order confirmation and a link to your Order Status Page.  You can view and track your orders progress online any time via your Order Status Page!

When your order ships, we'll send you a shipping confirmation and tracking info to let you know it's on it's way! We'll also send you delivery confirmation as soon as your order has been dropped off!

We ship to Puerto Rico! Almost all of our plants ship (bare root, of course) to Hawaii & Puerto Rico. Due to USDA restrictions, here's the list of a plants that we don't ship. 

Plants that DO NOT ship to Puerto Rico: Coffee, Palm, Banana  

Plants that DO NOT ship to Hawaii: Pineapple, Palm, Papaya, Coffee, Banana, Passion Fruit

How to Grow Yuca Root

Plant Type: Rhizomatous Perennial or Annual Shrub 

Harvest Season: Harvesting can begin as soon as 8 months after planting.

Mature Size: 12 ft. tall with equal spread at it's largest. Easy to grow and mantain in a container

Soil & Moisture: Grows in rich, loose, sandy soils which are moist, fertile, and deep.

Exposure: Full Sun, Light Shade

Zone Hardiness: 8-11
