The Chicago Hardy Fig (Ficus carica ‘Chicago Hardy’) is a standout variety known for its ability to withstand colder temperatures while still producing an abundance of delicious, sweet figs. Native to the Mediterranean but adapted for resilience, this fig tree is one of the most cold-tolerant varieties available, surviving in Zones 6-10 with proper winter protection. Its medium-sized, deep purple-brown fruits ripen in late summer to early fall, offering a rich, honey-like sweetness with a jammy texture.
