Canistel, also known as Eggfruit, Yellow Sapote or Tiesa, is a tropical evergreen tree that produces a delicious fruit with a really unique flavor.  Canistel fruit tastes like maple syrup coated sweet potatoes with a  texture that's simultaneously smooth, dry, creamy, and flaky. This grafted Fairchild #2 Canistel cultivar produces a slightly smaller fruit than other varieties, but can be harvested year-round! The fruit is deliciously moist, not at all chalky, and has a great quality flavor.  Canistel fruit should typically be harvested when fruit turn yellow-orange. Allow fruit 3 to 10 days to ripen at room temperature. Ripe fruit is soft but not super mushy.

Canistel is commonly found in Southern Mexico, Central America, parts of Southeast Asia and tropical biomes throughout the world. I have purchased plants from Sow Exotic several times now and they have always arrived in excellent shape without any signs of stress, disease, or insect pests. I also like the fact that they utilize biodegradable pots and packing supplies. I highly recommend Sow Exotic and intend to purchase from them again in the future.

    Valuable canistel

It's very difficult to get this year round fruiting variety. You must have patience, It's very small. Mine was 8" tall and 5/16" caliper. I purchased it in May and it just started growing in August. A very good investment in my fruit orchard. It will probably be 3 to 4 years before it fruits. I am very happy with my Sowexotic purchase. It had a good graft and was packed in biodegradable latex bag for roots. I would recommend it.
