Winged Bean (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus)
The Winged Bean, also known as the Goa Bean, Manila Bean, or Mauritius Bean, is a versatile tropical climbing legume plant native to New Guinea. Winged Beans are both medicinal and ornamental. The grow larger and more full than most beans. Their fruit provide an excellent source of folate, vitamin C, and B-complex.
Winged Bean performs exceedingly well in heat and humidity and is an excellent summer crop. It is a long, fast grower and will reach to the tops of oak trees if you allow it! Leaves, flowers, and beans can all be eaten. The flavor and texture of the leaves is comparable to spinach.
