Jackfruit, Artocarpus heterophyllus, is a large fast-growing tropical fruit tree related to Mulberry and Fig that produces the largest fruit in the world! On average, a Jackfruit weighs about 35 pounds but in it's native climate have reportedly been found to weigh over 100 pounds.  The Golden Nugget Jackfruit variety produces smaller, more round fruit than other jackfruit varieties.  When ripe, the spikey skin turns golden yellow.

The outer part of the Jackfruit is hard and textured. The inner fleshy yellow fruit pulp has have a pulled-pork like texture and is often used as a vegan replacement for pulled pork sandwiches, eaten raw, added to smoothies, chips, or sauces.  When ripe and unopened, Jackfruit can smell slightly unpleasant, but when opened it smells and tastes just like delicious pineapple bubble gum.

Mature Jackfruit trees can bear up to 100-200 fruit a year!
