The Ice Cream Bean tree is a large, fast-growing leguminous tropical fruit tree native to South America.  Ice Cream Bean fruit is so unique.  Bean pods average about one foot long.  The pulpy interior is snow white with a cotton candy texture and a sweet flavor reminiscent of vanilla ice cream. When roasted, the seeds provide a rich source of protein.  The seeds should not, however, be eaten raw. The interior cottony pulp of the Ice Cream Bean pods is an excellent source of dietary fiber, polyphenols, anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatories.

Ice Cream Bean trees are also an amazing nitrogen fixer for surrounding soil.  Prune trees in late winter or early spring to open the canopy and stimulate fruit growth.

    Beautiful Tree

We were so excited to get this tree. We recently bought a house and wanted a special tree to plant and grow with us. We can’t wait to plant it on the property in the spring when the weather improves. In the meantime, we will enjoy it as a house plant. The kids can’t wait until it starts fruiting.

    Fast Grower

1 year review- Great plant. It seems to be a pretty fast grower. The main stem grew straight up to about 10' before leaning so much that it started forming other branches so it looks....wispy(?). After 1 year it's between 12' and 15'. No fruit yet, but it has only been a year. It established itself well and has had no issues as of yet even with some stronger winds and a few days that dipped into the 40s. (Planted in Miami, Fl)
