Mamey Sapote 'Tazumal' (Pouteria sapota)
Regular price $69.95The Mamey Sapote is a large evergreen tropical tree that produces a large fruit that is both sweet and almond-like in flavor and beloved in the Caribbean. On the outside, Mamey Sapote fruit is brown and fuzzy, but on the inside the deep golden red-orange pulp is smooth and slightly granular. Mamey has a very unique rich flavor and is known as a dessert fruit. Fruit can be eaten fresh with a spoon or frozen and made into thick smoothies, milkshakes or ice cream.
The Tazumal Sapote is a variety originally cultivated in Homestead, Florida in 1975, from a seedling tree sent from El Salvador in 1949. Tazumal Fruit is medium size with excellent quality pink flesh that contains only 1-2 seeds. Tazumal fruit trees a medium sizes, fast-growing, and bears regularly and heavily. Tazumal's first crop of the year is ready to harvest from January to February, and produces a second crop in the summer from July to August.
