Pitangatuba (Eugenia neonitida)

Regular price $49.95

The rare, bright yellow Pitangatuba fruit has a very unique and extremely powerful flavor.  It's simultaneously sweet, acidic, apricot-meets-mango-like flavor is really unlike anything you've ever tried.  It's very soft and full of juice. The fruit is also incredibly fragrant and, it's important to note, has a brief window of ripeness despite it's nearly ever bearing nature.

Stout and shrublike, unlike other Eugenia species, Eugenia selloi is known to flower quickly once established. It's basically ever bearing (with the exception of the dead of winter) and evergreen. It thrives in subtropical-level humidity and full sun but also has some shade tolerance. It can begin producing yellow-orange, star-shaped fruit that is 2”–3” in diameter, after two years of growth. The fruit has a unique tartness that's also remarkably similar to apricot and is full of antioxidants.
