Everyone's favorite cool weather spice! The plant foliage is generally a glossy green to yellow-red, and they produce small flowers. This tree is full of oils so it's bark and leaves are highly aromatic. A note that it's the inner bark of various species that is used to make the spice. Cinnamon species generally have a slow to moderate growth rate and can be planted in the spring or early fall.

The aromatic bark of the Cinnamon tree is widely cultivated and celebrated for it's use as a culinary spice, however it has rich historical value for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine.

Cinnamon is often used in herbal preparations to enhance the bio-availability of other herbs, to balance digestion, and relieve headaches. It is a warming spice, and contributes the sweet, pungent and bitter tastes.  Combined with other warming herbs and spices like ginger and black pepper, it can be boiled into an herbal tea to soothe discomfort associated with colds. Cinnamon trees are easy to grow and make a great indoor potted plant.
