The Barbados Cherry, also known as West Indian Cherry or Acerola, is a tropical fruiting shrub or small tree.  It is native to the Lesser Antilles and tropical or sub-tropical regions of Central and South America. Barbados Cherry fruit is bright red in color and is LOADED with Vitamin C - 134% of your daily need to be exact.

Barbados Cherry is cultivated for the production of juice in some parts of the world, especially Brazil, much like oranges are cultivated in Florida.  Mature plants can handle light frosts and will survive slight periods of drought. Barbados Cherry trees are incredibly easy to grow and care for and will fruit with little effort.

    Acerola Cherry my 1st Love

In my teen years I use to make a juice with acerola cherries that’s what we called them in the islands. They are my first choice for an orchard and now these 4 that I bought from Sow Exotic will allow me to fulfill that dream

The tree was beautiful and healthy but it died.

I planted this and a blood orange tree. The blood orange is thriving but this central florida heat killed my Barbados Cherry before it could be established. I think it needed a bigger pot like the blood orange tree had. The long pot of the orange tree had a deep root system at planting time. The cherry bush only had the smaller shallow coconut peat pot. I don't think the little cherry bush could get it's roots established deep enough. The tree came nicely packed and was healthy. I will buy again from Sow Exotic.
