Young plants need shade to develop a strong root system, but will do well with more sun exposure overtime.

No
Longjack is not a self-pollinating plant, which isn't an issue at all if you're just growing the plant to harvest its root for medicinal benefit. However, if you're trying to grow Longjack to seed, you'll want to grow multiple plants for the best luck at pollination.
