Growing Guide: Chinese Leek
Growing Tips
Also known as: Chinese Leek, Chinese Chives, Garlic Chives, Oriental Garlic
Plant Chinese Leek in full sun to part shade and provide fertile, moisture-retentive, well-draining soil. Keep the soil evenly moist during active growth, avoiding waterlogged conditions. This hardy perennial forms expanding clumps and produces white flowers in late summer to fall. Harvest leaves by cutting them near the base, allowing the plant to regrow. Divide crowded clumps every few years to maintain vigor, and remove spent flower heads before seeds develop to limit unwanted spreading. Chinese Leek grows well in garden beds and containers.
